Each year the parade kicks off at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, and brings to life the emotion and imagery you find in a Norman Rockwell painting. This annual tradition embodies small town life, and does so in grand fashion by bringing the community together for a fun-filled morning.
Come out and enjoy a little slice of Americana and be part of the excitement! See your old friends, make some new ones, and take in all that Matthews has to offer!
2017 Parade Grand Marshal
This year, we’re honoring a person who, without his continual effort and support, the Matthews Alive Festival would not exist.
Former Matthews Mayor Lee Myers has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2017 Matthews Alive Parade and will lead the 25th anniversary parade on Saturday September 2nd at 10:30am. Myers served as Matthews Mayor from 1991 to 2009, and was key in forming the board that began as “Matthews Alive” in 1993. He is credited with revitalizing the decades-old festival, and pushing it forward into its modern era. Myers will be riding with his wife, Lucinda, and his grandson, Robert.
The parade begins on Matthews-Mint Hill Road, at McLeod Street. It moves forward to Trade Street, turns left (at Kristopher’s restaurant), continues straight through downtown Matthews on Trade Street, through the Festival, and concludes at the Matthews United Methodist Church.
