Each year the parade kicks off at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, and brings to life the emotion and imagery you find in a Norman Rockwell painting. This annual tradition embodies small town life, and does so in grand fashion by bringing the community together for a fun-filled morning.
Come out and enjoy a little slice of Americana and be part of the excitement! See your old friends, make some new ones, and take in all that Matthews has to offer!
2018 Parade Grand Marshal
Grand Marshals for the 2018 Matthews Alive Parade have been selected. These individuals are making a difference in specific communities within Matthews, are honoring the past, and are making it easier for everyone to live together harmoniously in the future.
Iris DeVore has worked tirelessly in the non-profit and senior communities of Matthews, establishing clubs, facilities, and resources for both groups since 1972. She led the efforts for the establishment of the Matthews Help Center and the Levine Senior Center, and has promoted thousands of hours of senior programming, awareness, and activities for decades.
Harvey Boyd is an activist and historian in his native Crestdale community, promoting the preservation of its art and story-telling, as well as its revitalization and growth in the future. He is also an advocate for the preservation of the historic African-American cemetery off Monroe Road.
Matthews Alive is honored to have Iris and Harvey lead off the 2018 Parade, and represent the best of “Peace, Love, and Harmony” for us in Matthews!
The parade begins on Matthews-Mint Hill Road, at McLeod Street. It moves forward to Trade Street, turns left (at Kristopher’s restaurant), continues straight through downtown Matthews on Trade Street, through the Festival, and concludes at the Matthews United Methodist Church.
